Get Hooked ~ Crochet by Erin

Have I ever told you how much I love Ravelry  ? One place that has amazing patterns, amazing people and amazing groups. One group I am particularly fond of is Crochet & Amigurumi, swap one .  I have participated in a few swaps so far. And received wonderful amigurumis . For June and July Sarah ( LittlePandCompany) asked who wanted to make Mermaids with her. I love mermaids so I said I was in. For June I am making Camilia   .Samantha, another member of the group is making an Ariel inspired mermaid using this pattern. I have her head done and will be finishing the rest over the next couple of days. I haven't decided what I should do with her hair. This is my first doll ami. For July, I am joining Sarah in making Mermaid Houseguest  . I ordered her eyes last week so I should have them soon.  More updates soon.

Yay ! we made it to week 2 :) :: Happy Dance :: While I was sitting in the doctors office ( my fiance' had an appointment) I was able to complete 6 granny squares in 30 minutes for the Mario Blanket. I could of finished more but my mind was somewhere else.  Late last week I changed the size of the squares. I was doing 4 rounds. 5 inches. My fiance doesn't need a large blanket, just enough to cover up with while sitting at his computer during the winter. So now each sq. is 3 rounds , 4 in.   I made 25 squares of light blue while I was waiting for the Hot Red yarn that I ordered to show up.It was a full skein when I started and I am able to make about 5 more with the ball I have left. I just want to make sure I don't need this color for any little projects. Its hard for me to get to the store sometimes since I don't drive :( I want to get at least half of the squares done before my busy season.(Halloween). I know brown will be the last color I complete . My fut...

So I fell off the YOP wagon last year and accomplished next to nothing. In my defense I got busy with orders. a certain hat blew up in popularity in my etsy shop. I was getting 3-5 hat orders in a day all through late September and early October. I am hoping for a repeat of that :) For this Year of Projects list I kept it short. If you are an avid reader, you know I talk about Ravelry alot. its a great source for patterns, yarns, and people who share the obsession of all things yarn. I am in a ton of groups... some I contribute to, some I just read posts , and a few are charities I try to help out when I can. I started a group last year for my Halos of Hope New England team. The group I mentioned in the subject , 12 Knits of Christmas, is where people make a list of items they want to crochet or knit for friends and family for Christmas. Last year I finished 3 items. I am starting late this year and I haven't made a list yet.  But I know I have to make a Mario blanket for my boyfriend, an Eeyore hat and Winnie the Poo blankie/stuffed animal for my great niece, a pair of slipper socks for my boyfriend, and a few cat sweaters for my cat.. that's about 5 or 6 items so far. here are 6 granny squares I made for my boyfriends blanket.. 246 to go! :) 

This all started about a month ago.. a bunch of Ravelry ladies got together to have a Blog Hop.Our goal: to finally FINISH our works in progress ( WIPs ) .many of us failed :( many of us succeeded ! I hope you come along on this tour and "hop" to each member . follow them and let them know you like their Finally Finished WIP :) My goal was to finish a hexagon blanket on the loom, a spider man hat, an apron for the church fair and a wavy scarf. how did everyone do with the first clue? it should look like this.. I chained 32 which measures about 7 inches. this is where it might get a little tricky for the newbies. but if I can do it... so can you. the special stitches are not hard. I found few videos on youtube to help you out if you are a visual person. The next few stitches will help you determine if you want to use a multi colored yarn or keep the solid. Special Stitches: Puff Stitch (pst) : ( yarn over, insert hook in next stitch to be worked, and draw up a loop to height of dc) 4 times; yo  and draw through all 9 loops on hook. pst made. find video HERE Front Post Double Crochet (FPdc): yo, insert hook from front to back to front around post of specified stitch and draw up a loop; (yo, and draw through 2 loops on the hook) twice. Hey all... are we ready to get crocheting? :) As I mentioned in the ravelry group , you will need a size G hook and worsted weight yarn/10ply . you'll need less than 150 yards. Using a solid color will work best to see the special stitches, but its up to you.  this pattern has special stitches that I will walk you through, for you newbies. Don't be alarmed. They are very simple.    Now for the pattern...... ch.  multiples  of 2 ( to fit your wrist ) DO NOT JOIN. ( i chained 32) row 1: sc (single crochet) in the 2nd chain from hook. and in each remaining ch to end. chain 2(counts as dc for the following row.) turn. ( 31 sts) row 2: dc (double crochet) in each st (stitch) to end. chain 3. turn  (31 sts) next clue will be posted June 8th ................

I was checking out my list ( a few posts down) and I noticed I need to update it a bit from my original ( paper list). 1. make 13 crochet patterns and 13 loom patterns.   Update : crochet: Blessings Chemo cap                loom: Loom Chemo Cap                       Shelly fingerless mitts    2. adopt 13 centers for my Halos of Hope New England team    Update: done. 3. Make 13 chemo caps for each cap drive ( HOHNE).     Update:  The first cap drive of the tear was a hit. The Breast Health Center in Providence received about 50 caps. I think I made about 10. I made these washcloths for House of Hope in Rhode Island.  They run the state’s largest men’s night to night shelter as well as two transitional shelter programs (one for men and one for women). I only made 3 for  the ravellenic games on Ravelry. Planning on making many more for House of Hope. 

This one is for Scarf Hockey. I started and finished this scarf Friday.  YAY.. go me!!
